Speak Up for Ability 2021: Online Parents Forum, Saturday, April 24 from 10:30am - 3:30pm ET

Catching Up and Moving Forward in Education and Mental Health for Students with Learning Disabilities



Join the LDAK and United Parents (UP) for our FREE annual conference, Speak Up for Ability: Online Parents Forum. The topic this year is Catching Up and Moving Forward in Education and Mental Health for Students with Learning Disabilities.


We will address some of the big challenges facing families and children/youth (age 8-18) with learning disabilities linked to Covid-19 and ongoing interruptions to students’ learning, as well as strategies for moving forward. Sessions include:


- Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, tips and strategies from the Integra Program at CDI (Child Development Institute) for parents/caregivers and youth themselves


- Presentation: What is current in education and the learning disabilities program at the Limestone District School Board, strategies and resources, followed by a Q&A period

- Presentation: The new multi-year literacy plan at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, designed to help teachers in "Reaching Every Reader." Tips for parents/caregivers included, followed by a Q&A period


- Panel of parents, teachers and professionals in the field, including Lockhart George Literacy, with the opportunity for participants to engage in discussion on key themes, including barriers and strategies to help close the gaps


Speak Up for Ability is an online forum for up to 100 parents/caregivers, students, teachers, and community service providers who work together to ensure the best opportunities for students with learning disabilities and attention issues.


By the end of this free forum, it is expected that participants will be able to collaborate in finding the best solutions to overcome challenges for students with learning disabilities, apply skills to promote the mental health of children/youth with LDs, and better understand how to navigate the current educational climate together.



Logistics:


Date: Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:30am - 3:30pm ET (join anytime). There will be a 30 minute lunch break provided, and short scheduled breaks throughout.

Early registration is recommended to participate in this free forum as we have limited spots available on Zoom.
