WORKSHOP (Free): Did You Ever Wonder How to Remotely Control a Lego Robot?

Introduction to Lego Robots and Coding (free)
ALTERNATE TITLE: Did You Ever Wonder How to Remotely Control a Lego Robot?
Saturday Nov. 3 9:45 am - 11:15 am - Part 1
Saturday Nov. 17 9:45 am - 11:15 am - Part 2
Suitable for ages 7-12. Parents are welcome to stay and enjoy the fun.
Come and learn about coding and our Lego Boost Robots. Learn how to use a tablet to control a 12” high robot made out of Lego bricks and motors! Try out some robot coding apps that you can use at home.
Not Sure About Coding?
You don’t have to tell the kids that they will be doing coding! We’ll be using tablet devices (e.g., iPad, Chromebook) to make our Lego robots work. You can manipulate on-screen buttons that direct the robots to move, talk, and perform actions upon request, such as speaking, dancing, making music, and more. No prior experience is necessary.
Here are some quotes and links to two articles by Mitchel Resnick, Professor of Learning Research at the MIT Media Lab, that help explain why learning to code is a good thing!
Is Coding Good for Literacy?

“Realizing that you can not only change and influence things, but that you can create things that other people can use is very important.”
Learn to Code, Code to Learn

"...I see much deeper and broader reasons for learning to code. In the process of learning to code, people learn many other things. They are not just learning to code, they are coding to learn. In addition to learning mathematical and computational ideas (such as variables and conditionals), they are also learning strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas. These skills useful not just for computer scientists but for everyone, regardless of age, background, interests, or occupation.”
For all workshops, seating is limited.
Preregistration is required.
